Camp Abilities Brockport Funding:

Funding for Camp Abilities Brockport is entirely from donations and grants. This past year camp was funded from donations and grants from:

  • Wilmott Foundation
  • Golisano Foundation
  • The Theresa Foundation
  • The NY State Commission for the Blind
  • Rite Aid
  • Bausch & Lomb
  • Lion’s Clubs
  • Local Area Merchants
  • Personal Donations

The families of the campers are responsible for the balance of the expenses required for each camper to attend. This puts a big financial burden on many of the families who come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

Last year the Commission for the Blind gave 47 campers a partial or full scholarship.  Without foundation grants the cost to each family could reach up to $1000 and would prevent many children from attending the Camp.  Most of the grants we receive are a one-time grant, which mandates that 75 percent of our time is spent on fund raising.  This is time that should be spent focusing on research, workshops, and consulting, which would assist families, specialists and children by aiding them to improve the quality of their lives.

Projected costs for camp reach over $100,000 each year.  We have no major commitments to support camp in the upcoming years.

Camp Abilities is a sponsored program at The College at Brockport, State University of New York.  Neither Camp Abilities Brockport nor The College at Brockport has any affiliation, association or sponsorship of Camp Ability and the Illinois Spina Bifida Association.
